"We all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit." 2 Cor. 3:18

Worship

I noticed something interesting regarding worship for the first time in the One Year Bible reading the other day.  Genesis 4:26 (NLV) says,

"When Seth grew up, he had a son and named him Enosh.  It was during his lifetime that people first began to worship the Lord."

Then, Genesis 5:3 informs us that Adam was 130 years old when he had Seth.  And, Genesis 5:6 records for us that Seth was 105 years old when his son Enosh was born.  So, do the math!  That's 235 years that people apparently weren't worshiping God!

Now we know that Cain & Abel offered sacrifices.  But, that form of worship seems to be differentiated from that mentioned in Genesis 4:26 above.  Interesting!  Definitely worth pondering!

  1. This isn't in regards to worship, but I have a question. Why does the Bible get so specific with the law from that time? Was it to give us a better understanding of what we've been freed from or is there something else?

  2. I think that there are many reasons. Many of the dietary laws that seemed weird in years past, we now understand to be sound health/medical practices. The judiciary/civil laws were very practical, in that they gave a standard by which people like Moses & his leaders (as well as future judges) could arbitrate the disputes of the people. Then, of course the sacrificial laws - who knows the human logic behind them; but, they all find fulfillment in Christ's sacrifice. And, yes you're right. We now have a greater appreciation of what we've been freed from by accepting Christ's perfection as our righteousness, rather than trying to achieve it in our own vain human efforts. I hope this helps. If I'm way off the intention of your question, please let me know.
